Floirac House | Manoir de Foussac, Dordogne valley

11 Bedroom House in Floirac

Sixteenth century manor house with heated swimming pool, magnificent view on the banks of the Dordogne, the Manoir de Foussac is nestled in the Dordogne valley, in a quiet and relaxing village, surrounded by the cliffs of the Causses du Quercy. From the property, there is a superb view of the cirque of Floirac (known as Montvalent).
The Manoir de Foussac can accommodate up to 30 people for large family celebrations, family reunions, birthdays, gatherings with friends or business seminars. The large living areas, the terrace and the main kitchen allow you to take meals together. The property consists of two buildings that communicate through the garden. On the ground floor, the common room is a 60m2 huge room, very comfortable in summer and winter thanks to its underfloor heating and its monumental fireplace from the sixteenth century. The 50m reception room, also adjoining the main kitchen of 25m2, is adorned with a large fireplace. In the basement, a large 50m2 games room equipped with an English billiard table and a table football is set on an adobe floor with Dordogne pebble patterns. The fireplace in the old kitchen gives this place an exceptional character.
The Manor is surrounded by a 5500m2 garden with fruit trees and many rose bushes. At 250m, the Dordogne offers a rural setting for swimming or walks between the walnut trees and the river. The large heated swimming pool is usable from the beginning of April to the end of September. Picnic tables allow you to have lunch in the shade of the pergola by the pool.
The main building, a Hospitalet, was built on the foundations of a Templar castle built in the twelfth century. Located on the banks of the Dordogne, near the passage to Gué de Copeyre, it welcomed pilgrims on the road to Santiago de Compostela known as "Flanders".
It is a place marked with history, of which many architectural details reminiscent of its prestigious past: mullioned windows, arrowslits and 16th century fireplaces...
Extract « The noble house of Foussac” of the book “Floirac in Quercy, the origins at the end of the XVIIth century” of Michel Carrière :
Extract from the book 'Castles, Manors and Homes of the Lot” :
Extract « The way of Rocamadour” of the book “Templars and Hospital in Quercy, Commanderies and priories on the way of Notre-Dame de Rocamadour” of Jacques Juillet :

Summary: We were five families coming together from Canada, New Zealand and England. There were 26 of us and the manoir accommodated us all very well. The house has real character and history and it is positioned in a fabulous area of France, with beautiful villages to explore in every direction. The pool was a God-send with the heat and provided hours of joy. There were many black flies to contend with, but they didn’t spoil the overall experience (covering food and using fly paper helped). It would have been nice to have had a little of the local information in English because the house and area has so much history that we would have loved to have learned - but our French definitely improved. Overall, the charm of the property and the nature of the three gites connected yet also offering independent options for cooking etc meant we had a memorable and special week.

Summary: Le Manoir de Foussac is a wonderful accommodation in the heart of beautiful Vallée de la Dordogne! The house is spacious and especially well suited for families. As a guest you feel the charming atmosphere of French countryside living with beautiful surroundings and endless possibilities of indoor and outdoor activities. The place offers a wide selection of games and a lovely pool area as well. The manor is definitely worth a visit if you like a dwelling full of nooks and crannies! The house has a labyrinthine structure with many small rooms and hidden stairs - very intriguing and fun to explore. The manor truly has a personality of its own, and If the walls could talk this would be a place of fantastic tales and spooky secrets! We enjoyed our stay to the fullest.

Summary: We had a wonderful family holiday at Manoir de Foussac. We were a family group ranging from 1 year to 71 years and everyone loved their time at the Manoir. The location is idyllic and the house itself was wonderful. There was loads of space for everyone (including a games room for the children) and the family meals on the balcony overlooking the cliffs is something we'll never forget. The swimming pool of course was fantastic and the stroll down to the Dordogne river was beautiful. While we were there we picked wild plums which was really nice. We also had the opportunity to meet owner Jean-Claude and his family which was a great experience, they were very friendly and welcoming. The only negative thing I have to say is that there were a lot of flies, but this is probably normal for this region at this time of year. Once you keep all food covered it's fine. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and just loved our time at Maoir de Foussac. We would love to go back.

Summary: We were a group of 5 families who took all three properties for two wonderful weeks in August 2015. The properties are full of rustic charm, set in a small hamlet, within walking distance of the Dordogne. There was plenty of space for all 19 of us, the pool area was well utilised and there is plenty of room for barbecuing and eating in various different areas of the grounds. We utilised the terrace area for early evening drinks, the front of the property for shady dinners and by the pool area for bbqs. Jean-Claude was extremely helpful and on the couple of occasions we needed to contact him, promptly rectified a few minor issues. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can certainly recommend to others for a large family/friends group who are looking for something quiet and peaceful with plenty of space!!!

Summary: This was the first time that my extended family had all been away together and so expectations were high and I am pleased to say that Le Manoir exceeded them. The house is situated just outside the pretty village of Floirac with a great local bar and 100 metres from the river Dordogne. We were also fortunate to have access to the local farm where we were able to buy milk, eggs and free range chickens! The house itself offers great flexibility and it comes with a fantastic swimming pool. I would thoroughly recommend the house and the area to anyone.
